A Huge Reflection on WHERE I AM AT...

Image
So how am I going to articulate my theory to practice... If I provide real, authentic learning experiences that relate to culture and learners interest in my teaching, then students (especially Māori and boys) will be more engaged at a deeper level and more of a willingness to learn. If students engage in this way, it will improve their reading, oral language, word attack skills and comprehension levels. Improved oral language and reading ability, will lead to better achievement in Reading because the learning will be real to them, delivered from a context relevant to selves and whanau embedded at a deeper level.

Inquiring into Dyslexic Behaviours

Image
Working alongside SENCO we are looking how to support our young learners who are displaying dyslexic tendencies.  This diagram helps us think about the whole child and how they learn.

Drive Through Blending

I love it, goes hand in hand with driving our own learning in Reading.  This will help to hook in the boys especially.

Word Attack in Action

Image
Making word attack a part of the everyday reading programme has been a hit. Learners were driving their own learning to work towards their progressions. This allowed me to have more directed time to focus on reading strategies during guided reading sessions.

Empowering Learners

Our overall Maori data at EOY 2017, of 25 learners showed that the achievement of Maori learners is significantly Below the overall school achievement level across all curriculum areas.  Adding to the 13% of Student Support learners and 18% of ESOL learners- 37% of our learners at the end of 2017 formed our growing percentage of priority learners. (Gina Harduar - Know thy Impact 2018 PLD) We have yet to realise significant shift in outcomes for our learners. From this analysis

Word Attack & Word Knowledge - how it can be a part of what I do when reading.

Having a daily focus on word attack and word knowledge progressions.  This will help to embed reading techniques and strategies to help unlock getting to the next reading level.  These practices are to be embedded and a 'part of me'.

Empowering my Learners Through Reading Choices

Image
Using Explain Everything as an avenue to provide learners with choice in their learning during Reading Time. Looking forward to starting with it on Monday. Already reflecting on how is this catering for my Maori Learners and ESOL. Monday I will collect some student voice on their initial thoughts, and what changes would they consider.
