Collecting Parent Voice

It has been great to get the insight of the parents and work closely with our parents and learners to create a partnership. 

Dear parents,

Hope this email sees you all well.

I just wanted to communicate with you that your child is in my reading group now. It has been great connecting with you during LLC or at different times of the term by either three of us teachers, so you are aware of what level your child is reading at, and have some next steps in place.

I just wanted to collect some parent voice from you, to best inform my teaching and best suit the needs of your child.  I have three questions
*  What do you think are some of the barriers in reading for your child? 

*  What do you think would help your child make progress in reading?

*  What further support do you need to help you child progress to the next colour in reading?



If you could please take a few moments to answer these questions it would be greatly appreciated.  If you could get back to me by the end of the week, that would be wonderful.  Thank you in advance, your voice is valuable to us.

My child loves reading, but writing is so much harder for them. I can teach reading, but not writing. They are just not interested in writing  If they don’t know a word should I tell them or do I let them guess? Kia ora, Great to be back here to share my 2022 Inquiry. whānau voice is asking us to partner alongside to help them support their child in writing,  The data collected from earlier this year, EASTle, Overall Teacher Judgements, Gap Analysis in School Talk, Our school-wide data, and tracking attitude and confidence show there is a dip in progress and learners are not making the expected rate of shift or are below standard in writing. I saw this as an opportunity to strengthen relationships and educate whanau on how to help their child at home.  I led a parent writing workshop to upskill them on how we use the LP and to engage their child in writing. Junior Agency Self Perception Tool (JAT)

The tool measures the level of agency learners have to take ownership of their learning and make informed decision with the tools and strategies they use.  The survey will provide us with detail so we can evaluate the progress over time and the shifts we need to make. It will provide us with information to make adjustments to our learning design and deliberate acts of teaching.  We have standardised tests to access reading, writing and maths. We have designed a survey to provide us with more standardised and comparative data the focuses on the soft skills for example growing collaboration.  The soft skills that are measured are Reliance/determination Self Aware Take Action Using Tools and Strategies Collaboration' Assessment Capable The 6 Agency capabilities are representative of across school CoL goals and come out of our Stonefields School signature practices....
